Overview - Information, Communications and Technology

Computing Studies incorporates the subjects of Information, Communication and Technology in Year 7 and Information Processes and Technology in Years 11 and 12.

Each course gives students the opportunity to learn theoretical concepts through practical projects that involve using the computer.

Students learn how to use the various functions of software packages and will familiarise themselves with topics such as spreadsheets, databases, webpage design, search engines, desktop publishing and animation.

The subject of Information, Communication and Technology has its focus on introducing students to Computing Studies at a Stage 4 level. Students have the opportunity to learn how to ethically use some of the more advanced features of software packages and to produce projects that can be printed out in colour.

There are four major topics and they include:

  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Animation
  • Desktop Publishing.

There is one assignment for each of these topics.

Information Processes and Technology Stage 6 is designed to enable students to
become confident, competent, discriminating and ethical users of information
technologies, to possess an understanding of information processes and to
appreciate the effect of information systems on society. (Information Processes and Technology Syllabus. Board of Studies,  2008) Syllabus Link.
