‘The study of languages provides opportunities for students to become more accepting of diversity, more respectful of others and more aware of their place in the international community’ (K-10 Syllabus).
Students at Cerdon College have the opportunity to study French and Italian from years 7 to 12.
Cerdon College has very strong ties with France as a result of its Marist traditions. French is a major world language, and together with English it is the official working language of a number of International organizations. Australia holds strong links with France through trade, culture, science and technology.
The Italian community is well established in Sydney, with the Italian language being one of the most spoken languages after English, in Australia. Italy and Australia are major trading partners, and share strong cultural and political connections, in fields such as tourism, fashion, music, technology and design.
A knowledge of languages is a pathway to career opportunities both in Australia and abroad.
Other languages may be studied via the Open High School and the Saturday School of Community Languages. This is subject to numbers and a approval.
