Overview - Mathematics

Mathematics is compulsory for all students from years 7 to 10. Mathematics Day

Students can study General, Mathematics (2 unit), Extension 1 in year 11. These courses are also available in year 12 with the addition of Extension 2 Mathematics.

Students also have the opportunity to complete the HSC Mathematics course in Year 11 by completing the accelerated program.

Whole numbers
Directed numbers
Exploring numbers
Patterns and Algebra
Angles
Decimals
Length, perimeter and area
2D and 3D shapes
Fractions
Further algebra
Volume, mass and time
Graphs, tables and charts


A Mathematics dayMathematics Day is undertaken by all students. The students have a “hands on” experience of how mathematics is applied to the real world. They build shapes and have the opportunity to solve mathematics problems.

Mathletics is available to all students. This allows the students to complete against students around the world.
Students have the opportunity to complete in mathematics competitions.
Students will complete the National Assessment Program (NAPLAN) to assess their numeracy skills

Maths Day

The students study Mathematics is three levels. The levels being 1,2 and 3. The topics are taken from the strands Number, Patterns and Algebra, Data, Measurement, Space and Geometry.

Mathletics is available to the students in year 9. The students study all the outcomes which are required for spreadsheets. Students in year 9  will complete the National Assessment Program (NAPLAN) to assess their numeracy skills. Students have the opportunity to complete in mathematics competitions.

Students are selected in year 10 to participate in the Accelerated Mathematics Program. The program allows the students to complete the HSC course Mathematics (2 units) in year 11. Students who are selected start the program in term 4 whilst they are in year 10.

 

Four courses are offered to the students in year 11. General, Mathematics (2 unit), Extension 1 and the Accelerated Mathematics program.

In year 12 Extension 2 is available.

Students who undertake the calculus courses go to the Sydney Aquarium where they apply their knowledge of mathematics to the real world.
