Our College Patron
Chavoin: Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, founded the Marist Sisters and is the Patron of Cerdon College. Cerdon is the little village in France where the Sisters began. Chavoin was born and lived in France, a country that was full of civil unrest and persecution. She was aware of the difficulties and challenges that face women in any age. Jeanne-Marie would want the young women of Cerdon College in the 21st Century to be women who would continue to make a difference in our world. She believed it not difficult to create relationships of compassion, service, friendship and even prayer amongst all. Her ideal was simple based on the life of Mary. |

Colin: Jean Claude Colin founded the Marist Fathers. People consider him to be a man of vision as he was the one to take the initial idea of the Marist Project and make it a reality. Colin’s vision was to make the whole world Marist and that all people would embrace Mary as their model in all that they do, the way they think, act and judge. Colin encourages each of us to use our gifts to bring Christ to the world as Mary did. |

Marcellin: Marcellin Champagnat, a Marist Father was the founder of the Marist Brothers. People saw him as a man of a strong mind and gentle heart with a special love for the poor and underprivileged. His model is Mary and his motto was “All to Jesus through Mary’. In the world of today Marcellin would see us young women with all our gifts working to build a society that is compassionate and reaches out with a generous heart especially to those who are less fortunate than ourselves. |
 |
Perroton: Francoise Perroton, a Lay Marist who launched a movement known as the Marist Missionary Sisters. People said that she was a woman of courage for leaving her country and daring to travel a long distance to the island of Wallis. She responded to a plea from the women of the Pacific to work with them in their newly-established local church set up by the Marist Fathers. Perroton was a pioneer and with other lay women from France desired to be women who were missionary, religious and Marist. Francoise encourages each of us here today to have that same missionary zeal that she acquired, the readiness to go beyond our own comfort zone and meet God in others. |

McOscar: Sister Felician McOscar, a Marist Sister was the founding Principal of Cerdon College. As you know Cerdon College began in 1960, to provide a secondary education for girls in this area. Recognising that Marists are called to bring Christ to the world as Mary did, “In All Things Christ” was chosen as the school motto. It is said that Sr Felician inspired in the students in those early years, a love of learning. She was a woman who pushed the boundaries, especially in terms of moving forward and providing opportunities for young women in a Marist way. Sr Felician is now known as Sr Doreen McOscar and lives in a Marist community at Woolwich.
