Higher School Certificate Results

2008 Year 12: CONGRATULATIONS

Class of 2008

Cerdon College Merrylands students have achieved outstanding results in the HSC in 2008.
108 students received Band 6 results in the HSC.
47% of all HSC results in 2008 were a Band 5 or Band 6 result.
80% of all HSC results were a Band 4 or higher.

5 students, Christabel Abalo, Sandra Cal, Karen De Costa, Vanessa Komlos andyr 12 2008  Natalie Raffoul were named as Premier’s Award Winners for Distinguished Achievement.

Cerdon College again was named in the top 125 NSW Schools for HSC Results.

Vanessa Komlos came 2nd in the State in 2 Unit Hungarian.
Sandra Cal came 5th in the State in 1 Unit Italian Extension.

To date 98 students have received offers of places in Universities in 2009.
More than 30 students received a UAI above 90.

80% of all subjects studied at Cerdon College achieved marks above the State Average mark for the course.

Congratulations to 2008 Year 12 students and their teachers on these excellent HSC results. While this report on results highlights outstanding student achievement, the results overall show evidence that many students have achieved their ‘personal best’ whilst a student at Cerdon College. These are truly outstanding results for a comprehensive secondary school.

The pleasing thing about the 2007 results is that the whole student body consistently achieved well above expectations and truly reflects a school philosophy which challenges students to achieve their full potential.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL: 2006 Year 12

In 2006, 160 students completed their Higher School Certificate. Results from the 2006 HSC cohort were strong with a number of students achieving excellent results. Student achievement in the HSC is reported on a standards framework using both course marks and performance bands from Band 1 to Band 6, with a Band 6 (the highest band). Student achievement in Extension courses are reported using both course marks and performance bands from E1 to E4 (E4 the highest band for an Extension course).

Of the 34 courses offered at Cerdon College, 29 (85.3%) of courses achieved above the State average mark. 15 subjects recorded results that were more than 2 marks above the State average mark, 6 subjects recorded results that were more than 5 marks above the State average mark and 2 subjects recorded results of more than 10 marks above the State average mark—PDHPE - 10.27 marks above the state average and Food Technology - 10.57 marks above the State average.

    • Eight students studied courses at either the Saturday Community Languages School, the Open High School or with private tutors. All of these students recorded a Band 4 or above, in courses which ranged from Design and Technology, Spanish Continuers, Spanish Extension, Vietnamese, Croatian and Maltese.
    • Also of special note 100% of students in 1 Unit Studies of Religion, 2 Unit Visual Arts, 2 Unit Hospitality (VET) and Modern History received a Band 4 or above, while in History Extension and Italian Continuers 100% of students received E3 or E4 Bands.
    • In all, 116 Cerdon College Band 6 achievers, were acknowledged in the HSC Honour Roll. One student received a Premier’s Award for All Round Excellence in the HSC.
    • 57% (91 students) of 2006 HSC students were offered places in University Courses.
