Goalball Nationals competition
Cerdon had seven students represent NSW at the recent Goalball Nationals competition which was held in Kew, Melbourne. Hailey Lindermann (Year 11) competed in the NSW Senior team and Jazmyn Chalouhi, Emily Dewar, Bianca Cruse, Kate Hogan, Jessica Spiller James (Year 10) and Madison Spiller James (Year 9) formed the NSW Development Squad.

All students performed exceptionally over the tournament and the improvement from the first day of competition to the second day was amazing. The NSW Senior team finished in 2nd place and collected the Silver Medal. They were beaten by the Queensland side who are also the Women’s Australian side. The NSW Development Squad finished 4th and were unlucky as they missed out on third place by only one goal. They were beaten in the dying seconds of the game by Victoria. The Cerdon students were awarded with a Bronze medal for their efforts.
There were some notable achievements with Hailey Lindermann scoring the winning goal for the NSW Senior team in the Semi Finals. Bianca Cruse finished 4th overall in the Goals Scored competition which is a fantastic achievement. Congratulations to all students involved.
Special thanks to Mrs Sutherland who was the Assistant Coach for the NSW Senior team and who worked tirelessly over the weekend to ensure that all students were well supported.

Language News
Caio, On Wednesday 9th September, 8GL4 went for a walk down to a local Italian Bakery. The Italian Bakery was called Vaglia di pane. When we arrived we went inside group by group. As we walked inside a beautiful aroma met us. Two ladies by the name of Giada and Maria greeted us and took our orders all in Italian. The wonderful types of food they sold were pizza, bread, cakes such as Tiramisu and Cannoli and coffee. Afterwards we sat outside and enjoyed our food. We enjoyed the experience. After the experience other students have gone to Vaglia di pane to enjoy other delicacies. Arrivederci Monica Kubiak, Michelle Bruscino (Year 8)
On 9th September class 8GL4 walked down to the Italian Bakery ‘Vaglia di pane’. First of all we ordered our pizza and deserts in Italian and went outside to eat our food. After eating we decided to play on the swings and have fun. This was a fun day. Ci siamo divertite! Melissa Khoury (Year 8)
Year 8 French Day, students participated in a variety of activities. At the beginning of the day, all the students went into the Drama room to watch a “Fantastique” play. Even though our French is very limited, we understood the play very well and the performance was well presented.
During recess, we were given a traditional French snack - Croissants and hot chocolate. The croissants were the nicest we’ve tasted. After recess we got into groups of 5 and were asked to present a play/advertisement about the play we watched earlier. During periods 5-6 we got to watch the performances and we were taken away by the presentations and the fantastic accents. Overall, the day was great fun and we learnt from our experience of the activities. French culture and our homemade French food gave the day a real French touch! Year 8 Students
Good Citizenship Day
On Thursday September 10, Year 9 participated in four workshops as part of Good Citizenship Day. These four workshops were: Peer Education Project, Cyber Bullying, No Arms, No Legs, No Worries and Team Building Can Be Fun. These workshops were both educational and enjoyable, allowing us to interact with other students and members of the wider community. The day ended with a role play from the Bully Busters which was humorous but tackled a serious issue—bullying.

Good Citizenship Day encouraged us to act as good citizens in the community and to stand up for social justice. We would like to extend a special thanks to all the teachers involved, the Year 11 Prefects, Anna Nguyen, Hailey Lindermann, Natalie Daoud and all the guests who made our day memorable.

Christina Habib, Raelene Boquiren and Natalie Rigby (Year 9)

Parliamentary Forum
On 31st August, we attended the Parliamentary Forum at the State Parliament House.
This program aimed to gather Year 10 students from all over NSW to share their opinions on nation-wide matters of Public Importance. This helped to enhance our knowledge of issues concerning youth as well as giving us an idea of the structure of parliament.
It was an enlightening experience for us. It allowed us to understand the significance of Politics in Australia and we all had turns debating relevant and current issues in society.
We would like to give a special thank you to Mrs Prideaux for organising this event and also to Mrs Gallina for helping us with our speeches and attending the day with us. Thank you.

The Wild West in Merrylands
Three students accepted the invitation to perform in the Wild West Show held at Cardinal Gilroy Village on Friday night, 18th September.
Elizabeth McFarlane, Chiara Grella (Year 12) and Kayla Barcelli (Year 10) were a hit with our local senior citizens. The three students truly entered into the spirit of the night by donning cowboy hats, boots and scarves. In turn, the girls saw for themselves how fun times do not need to end when you reach a certain age – we enjoyed the showcasing of line dancing, poetry recital, and singing of tunes from “Oklahoma”. A great night’s entertainment was enjoyed by all.
