From the moment I opened ‘Victor’s Challenge’, I was hooked. The opening line instantly captured me, and the rest of the plot kept me turning the pages.
You may believe that the basic storyline of ‘Victor’s Challenge’ is one that we have all heard before – a dashing prince being set three challenges that he must complete to win his love’s hand in marriage. However, Pamela tells her story with such flair and imagination that ‘Victor’s Challenge’ outshines the mere fairytales. Her ideas are original and captivating, whether she be writing about solving riddles or flying glass mountains, giant orange bats or owls with horns on their foreheads.
A scene I particularly enjoyed was when Victor went in search of the Dragon of Nevermore to recapture the Sceptre of Good Fortune. To do so, Victor needed to learn not to see with his eyes in order to find his way through the dark and dangerous Maze of Bemusement and then solve a difficult riddle set by a ferocious dragon.
Once again, Pamela has created lovable, humorous characters. Most of the old characters are there, along with quite a few new ones and they will all make readers smile, laugh and roll their eyes throughout the novel.
‘Victor’s Quest’, the first book about Prince Victor, was fantastic. ‘Victor’s Challenge’ is outstanding. Pamela has outdone herself with this novel and I am confident that it will be enjoyed by readers for many years. Talia Walker (This speech was presented at the book launch)
