YCS gives students the opportunity to recognise that they are being called by God to be active participants in life, to have ideas and opinions, and to take actions that change their own lives and the lives of the people around them by following the example of Jesus Christ.
The “Review of Life” is the most important tool of the YCS. It is a guide for putting your faith into action. The “Review of Life” has three sections: SEE, JUDGE and ACT.
In the SEE section students look at a situation that is happening in their lives, including what were the causes and how it is impacting people.
Then in the JUDGE section they make a judgement about what should be happening, based on reflecting on their faith and the Gospel.
In the ACT section, students can see the difference between what should be happening (from the JUDGE) and what is actually happening (from the SEE). They are then able to plan an action to overcome this difference. They look at what they would like to achieve, and then decide what small action they can take in the week.
YCS is a “Student Run Movement” which means that all our leaders are secondary school students! In every level of YCS, students are in charge: so whether its running a local group, being the boss of a paid YCS worker for your region or representing Australia at an international meeting, its students who do it all.
